SECURE Act: Changes and opportunities abound
You’ve heard the news: The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act was signed into law on Dec. 20, 2019. But do you know how it will impact Americans planning for retirement? The act tackles the gap between what Americans have for retirement and what they will actually need, and it includes these key changes:

  • Support for new parents through penalty-free withdrawals from retirement accounts, including IRAs, for qualified births and adoptions
  • Elimination of the IRA contribution age limit and extension of the required minimum distribution start date to age 72
  • New limitations to Stretch IRAs, meaning that, generally, IRAs and retirement plans inherited from anyone other than a spouse will have to be distributed and taxed within 10 years of the original owner’s death

What does all this mean? Opportunities abound to help IRA and retirement plan owners prepare for the future, with new sales opportunities in both the life insurance and long-term care planning spaces. Operations updates


Changes to calculating amount to underwrite for Asset Care®
To create more consistency across our Asset Care products, we’re updating the way we calculate amount to underwrite for these products, effective Jan. 29, 2020. You can review the new guidelines here and will see this change reflected in the revised Care Solutions Process Guide available soon.
 
Reminder: Online scheduling for LTCG
Our Care Solutions interview vendor, LTCG, has launched a new scheduling function so clients can now easily schedule interviews online. Once the agent has contacted LTCG and ordered the interview, the client can go to scheduling.ltcg.com/OneAmerica to schedule their interview at their preferred date and time.
