Washington State Underwriting Update
We have now completed the underwriting for over two-thirds of the Washington State business that has been submitted. The remaining applications require obtaining necessary sets of medical records to reach an underwriting decision.
There are a small number of cases that have not yet completed telephone interviews or an age required LTC Exam. We do expect all of those to be done within the next two weeks.
To facilitate the release of medical records, our vendor has been offering electronic transmission options as a time saver to the larger medical care providers. We have established an expedited process to make sure “special authorizations” are sent to the health care provider on a timely basis. These special authorization cases are most at risk for not being completed on time.
How you can help
If you check the status of your business and see the medical records are delayed, you are encouraged to ask your client to contact their health care provider to ask that the medical records be released. Providers are more responsive to their patients than to the insurance company making that same request.
We are optimistic that we will be able to reach final decisions in the next three weeks on all cases where the medical records are released to us.
