New point of sale option for Medicare Supplement Applications

New Point of Sale Option for Personal History Interviews on Medicare Supplement Applications

We’re always looking for opportunities to make doing business with Transamerica easier and more efficient. Effective February 1, 2018, your clients applying for Medicare Supplement Insurance that requires underwriting will now have the option of completing a required Personal History Interview (PHI) at the point of sale! Following the completion of all forms, including the Medicare Supplement application and HIPAA Authorization form, an applicant may contact EMSI to complete their PHI. Using the point of sale option ensures prompt completion of the PHI and speeds up the underwriting review process. In order to streamline the underwriting review process and create a consistent customer experience, a PHI will be required on all underwritten Medicare Supplement applications, effective February 1, 2018.

Please follow the steps below if your client wishes to complete a point of sale personal history interview:

  1. Complete the application and all required state-specific forms, including the HIPAA, then sign and submit them as you normally do.
  2. Your client may now call EMSI at 866-928-8333 to complete their PHI. EMSI’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET. Please indicate on the paper application cover page if your client intends to complete the point of sale PHI. For IGO, there will be a question on the applicant page asking this.
  3. If your client prefers to complete their interview at a later time, EMSI will contact the applicant a few days after the application is submitted to complete the interview just as they do today.
  4. Your client will need to provide standard information, including their exact name, date of birth and Social Security number. EMSI will confirm that the application and all required state-specific forms, including the HIPAA Authorization form, have been completed and signed prior to starting the PHI. We need to make sure the client provides their exact name as provided on the application along with the agent’s name. Note that, you too, will need to provide your exact name on the application as well.
  5. For the PHI, a representative from EMSI will ask the applicant questions regarding their medical history. The client should be prepared to share their prescription medication and doctor information with the interviewer. Generally the PHI will take approximately 12 minutes; however, the time could vary based on the complexity of the applicant’s medical history.

Thank you for your business! Please contact your dedicated Transamerica Sales Desk at 877-532-4910 if you have any questions about the point of sale PHI process.
