“6.6% of those 65+ need help with ADLs, says CDC,” by Lois A. Bowers, McKnight's Senior Living
 
“From January to September 2017, 6.6% of adults aged 65 or more years needed help with activities of daily living (also called personal care), according to data newly released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics. . . . Comparing age groups from January to September 2017, however, adults aged 85 or more years were more than twice as likely as adults aged 75 to 84 to need help with personal care from other people — 21.6% versus 7.9% — and adults aged 85 or more years were more than six times as likely as adults aged 65 to 74 (3.2%) to need help with ADLs from other people. This finding was in keeping with the center's recent surveys.”

It behooves LTCI producers to remind prospects and clients of this data—the need for long-term care increases with age, so get protection ASAP.

U.S. Holiday Telephone Solicitation Bans for the Month of April 2018
 
Please be aware of the following U.S. holiday telephone solicitation bans for the month of April.

  • On Sunday, April 1, 2018: Louisiana prohibits unsolicited marketing calls to residents in observance of Easter, however, state law already prohibits telephone solicitation on Sundays
  • On Monday, April 23, 2018: Alabama prohibits unsolicited marketing calls to residents in observance of Confederate Memorial Day
  • On Monday, April 30, 2018: Mississippi prohibits unsolicited marketing calls to residents in observance of Confederate Memorial Day

Ohio Severe Storms – Disaster Notification
 
Area(s) affected: Ohio Counties: Adams, Athens, Belmont, Brown, Clermont, Columbiana, Gallia, Hamilton, Hocking, Jackson, Jefferson, Lawrence, Meigs, Monroe, Muskingum, Scioto and Washington.
 
Start date: February 19, 2018   &nsbsp;       End date: May 24, 2018
 
Mutual of Omaha is in the process of identifying customers affected by this event. A special note will be added to these policies in the near future. The grace period will be extended by an additional 30 days on affected policies as well as a message being added to our eService tool. We will exercise leniency in dealing with our customers that have been affected and allow exceptions to contract requirements when our customers are displaced from their homes. Please keep this in mind when working with our customers.

Mutual of Omaha Reports 2017 Financial Results

OMAHA, Neb. – Mutual of Omaha today reported record 2017 GAAP pre-tax operating income of $554.8 million on revenues of $8.7 billion, compared with operating income of $526.3 million on revenues of $7.9 billion in 2016.

 
Net income after taxes was $862.6 million, compared with $356.6 million in 2016. Net income for 2017 included non-recurring net favorable items of $469.4 million related to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
 
“Mutual of Omaha is a financially strong organization,” said Chairman and CEO James Blackledge. “As a mutual company, we exist for our policyholders. Profitable growth enables us to maintain the financial strength necessary to give our customers peace of mind knowing that we’ll be here to pay the benefits promised to them in our policies.”

Rate Adjustments Effective June 1, 2018
 
Mutual of Omaha will be implementing rate adjustments in Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, effective June 1, 2018.
 
Policyholders will receive a letter notifying them at least 60 days prior to the premium rate increase. The effective date of the premium rate increase will be listed in this notification. Notification to all affected policyholders will be mailed by April 1, 2018 to ensure policyholders in the approved states receive notification of their June 1, 2018 premium rate increase.

REMINDER: Genworth to Suspend Sales of Long Term Care Insurance in Florida
 
Effective April 1, 2018, Genworth will temporarily suspend sales of individual long term care insurance in Florida. Genworth is working on innovative new products in long term care insurance, life insurance and annuities, and, in consultation with the State of Florida, will seek to re-enter the Florida market in the future.
 
This change will not affect existing policyholders.
 
In order to effect a smooth transition, please note the detailed transition rules below and remember that all licensing and continuing education requirements must be met prior to submitting new business. It is critical to follow the transition rules, as we will not be able to make any exceptions.
 

 

 

Medicare Supplement Insurance Premium Rate Changes
 
Transamerica Premier Life Insurance Company will be implementing Medicare Supplement insurance premium rate changes for new sales and inforce policies. The policies that are impacted were originally underwritten by Transamerica Premier Life Insurance Company. Impacted states include: NJ, NM, NV.
 
New Medicare Supplement insurance premium rates for inforce policies,   formerly underwritten by Stonebridge Life Insurance Company will be implemented. Impacted states include: FL, NM
 


Transamerica Final Expense New Business Phone Lines
 
The Final Expense New Business phone lines will be closed each Wednesday from 3/14/18 until 4/11/18 from noon to close central time. We will be focusing our staff on processing and placing policies.
