“One of the most tragic aspects of the coronavirus pandemic is that as of June 3, 42% of all COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. have come from nursing homes or assisted-living facilities. The statistics reinforce every senior’s desire to remain at home in his or her final years, which is only possible if you have the resources to afford this very expensive home health care — or if you have long-term care (LTC) insurance. Otherwise, state Medicaid programs provide care for the impoverished, though mostly in institutions. Perhaps because of this growing awareness (or ongoing low interest rates earned by insurers), prices of the newest hybrid/combo LTC policies are starting to rise. David Phillips, an estate planning specialist and consumer resource for LTC insurance at ROP LTC (www.ropltc.com), has issued a warning of a 10% to 15% price increase on July 15 for new applicants for one of the best hybrid LTC policies for people under age 71. Other insurers are likely to follow."

Holiday Telephone Solicitation Bans for the month of July 2020
 
Please be aware of the following US holiday telephone solicitation bans for the month of July 2020:

  • On Friday, July 3, 2020 and Saturday, July 4, 2020: Alabama, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, and Mississippi prohibit unsolicited marketing calls to residents in observance of Independence Day.
  • On Friday, July 24, 2020: Utah prohibits unsolicited marketing calls to residents in observance of Pioneer Day.

Understanding your Exposure with Telephone Solicitations
 
The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 (TCPA), was enacted to protect consumers from unwanted telemarketing calls and faxes. It imposes liability in the form of regulatory fines and incentivizes private plaintiffs to pursue claims with statutory damages of $500 to $1,500 per call, with no limit.
 
Agents and brokers are expected, and contractually required, to act in full compliance with the law. Mutual of Omaha may recover any costs incurred in investigating, settling or litigating TCPA claims from agents, brokers, and their uplines.

Mutual of Omaha LTC Issue Age Restriction Lifted in Additional States
 
Mutual of Omaha is pleased to announce we are lifting restrictions for LTC applications age 65 and over in additional states effective July 6, 2020. States include Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
 
Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions document for a current list of all states and effective dates.

Update to GTL's Agent Portal Voice Verification
 
GTL has added a new DOB submission method on the Agent Portal Voice Verification call.
 
Your clients now have the option to input their date of birth through their phone keypad. In order for the AI to interpret the DOB correctly through the keypad, it needs to be 8 digits in the form of 2 digit month, 2 digit day and 4 digit year.
