"Countdown to Retirement: 10 Years Away" by Eileen Ambrose and Sandra Block, Kiplinger
“You could pay the bills out of pocket (in other words, self-insure) if you have the assets. Or consider long-term-care insurance. Consumers often worry that premiums will skyrocket over time or that they will buy the insurance and never use it, says John Ryan, a CFP with Ryan Insurance Strategy Consultants in Greenwood Village, Colo. People who bought policies decades ago were shocked to see steep increases later. But today’s policies are more accurately priced—meaning premiums are higher—than those issued back then, and actuaries are not forecasting severe premium hikes in the future, says Ryan.”
LTC Comment (from Stephen A. Moses, President, Center for Long-Term Care Reform):
Take this message—that “actuaries are not forecasting severe premium hikes in the future”—to clients and prospects with Kiplinger as a trustworthy source.

Industry Updates:

LTC Claims Materials
If clients go on claim, there is a good chance they may be calling you for help. Mutual of Omaha has provided materials that will help you and your client through the claims process.

LTCi Tax Advantages Flyer Updates
A unique advantage of traditional LTCi is the tax benefits it offers to your clients. The LTCi tax advantages flyers are now updated with the 2019 eligible deduction amounts.
Let your clients know buying a traditional long-term care insurance policy from Mutual of Omaha offers tax advantages. Also, if you have clients that are small business owners, there may be significant tax savings if they use business dollars to purchase long-term care insurance.

Mutual of Omaha is Invested in Long-Term Care Solutions
From rolling out a Long-Term Care rider for life policies to improving the claims process, we had a lot going in 2018. To see what we have accomplished this past year (with your help), read our wrap-up letter.
We appreciate all the business you placed with us in 2018 and look forward to more success in 2019.

LTCi Underwriting Process Improvement
Starting on January 20, 2019, your clients can use the new online scheduling portal to schedule their telephone interview if it is needed from underwriting.
The online scheduling portal works like this:

  • Application is received by Mutual of Omaha that includes an email address
  • An email is sent out within 24 hours to the applicant
  • Email contains a link to an online telephone interview schedule request
  • Applicant selects the time and date of the telephone interview
  • Interview is scheduled, and confirmation sent out

If your clients do not respond to the online email option or don’t provide an email address, the usual process of outbound call scheduling will take place.
The Next Steps flyer has been updated to reflect this new way to schedule the telephone interview.

The New LTC Rider is Now Approved in Indiana
On January 1, agents selling in Indiana will now have an additional option to help meet clients’ long-term care planning needs. The new Long-Term Care Rider will be available for you on our Income Advantage and Life Protection Advantage Indexed Universal Life (IUL) insurance policies.

LTC Rider Brochure Now Available in Florida
On November 1, we announced the Florida approval of the new LTC Rider on Income Advantage IUL and Life Protection Advantage IUL. At that time, we were still awaiting approval in Florida on the LTC Rider client brochure.
This brochure has now been approved and a state specific version is available for agents selling in the state of Florida.

Did You Hear the News?
The Life Product Review has awarded the WYSIWYG Award to both of our IUL products – Income Advantage and Life Protection Advantage. This is an award that Mutual of Omaha is honored to receive, as it aligns with our IUL philosophy.
