Report: Dementia deaths fell in nursing homes, rose in private homes from 2018 to 2022,” by Kristen Fischer, McKnights LTC News

“Between 2018 and 2022, the percentage of deaths related to dementia in nursing homes and long-term care communities declined compared to the equivalent in private homes and hospice, according to a new report published Wednesday. … Deaths in nursing homes or long-term care facilities decreased from 53.6% in 2018 to 44.6% in 2022. During the same time, deaths at home stemming from dementia increased from 23.7% to 30.4%.”

LTC Comment, Stephen A. Moses, President, Center for Long-Term Care Reform:

Does this reflect a victory for rebalancing from institutional to home care? Or does it imply that many dementia patients are not receiving the full-time medical attention provided by nursing homes?
