Critical Illness Product Update for Virginia

Mutual of Omaha is committed to providing insurance solutions to help you protect your clients and prepare them for the future. Due to the limited covered conditions available with the Critical Illness product in Virginia, we have determined the product does not meet the standards of Mutual of Omaha and the obligation we have to serve our clients.

Effective May 2, 2022, we will no longer offer the Critical Illness product in the state of Virginia.

The Cancer Insurance and Heart Attack & Stroke Insurance products will still be available.

Transition Rules
Critical Illness applications in Virginia must be signed by the client on or before May 2, 2022 and received in the home office no later than May 6, 2022. Any applications signed after May 2, 2022 (regardless of date received) or applications received after May 6, 2022 (regardless of signed date) will not be accepted. We will not make any exceptions to these dates.

  • Pending Critical Illness applications will be processed as applied for. All pending applications older than 60 days are no longer considered valid and a new application will be required.
  • Virginia e-Applications must be signed and submitted by May 2, 2022 to be accepted.
  • If a paper application is received after May 6, 2022, it will be withdrawn regardless of the signature date.

Materials Update
Updated applications will be available on Forms and Materials, the e-App and mobile quotes on Friday, May 2, 2022.

Providing a solution for your clients in Virginia
Talk to your clients about the importance of an income protection strategy by using Mutual of Omaha’s Cancer Insurance and Heart Attack & Stroke Insurance products. These products are available by completing separate applications for each product through our paper or our e-App solution.

  • Cancer Insurance: This policy is designed to provide benefits for cancer only (internal cancer or malignant melanoma).
  • Heart Attack & Stroke Insurance: This policy is designed to provide benefits for heart attack and stroke or the performance of coronary angioplasty surgery or coronary artery bypass surgery only.

Both products provide:

  • A lump-sum benefit
  • Benefit amounts of $10,000 – $100,000
  • Lifetime coverage
  • Express and Simplified Underwriting
