Common Questions on Automated Underwriting

On November 17, we launched Automated Underwriting, our new ‘instant decision’ tool for Living Promise e-Applications. There are a few common questions being asked, so we thought we’d clarify a few things for you.

  1. After I start the HIPAA signature process, why can’t I change the client’s personal information?
    • Part of the security protocol for the e-signature is to ensure all fields are locked and cannot be changed. This includes the client information input in the “Personal Information” and “Insurance History” questions. It is important to make sure all information is accurate before moving to the next screen.
  2. Why can’t I select “Level” or “Graded” in the “Plan Information” section?
    • During the development of the new process, we determined that everyone should start out as “Level” until something triggers the “Graded” plan. As a result, we removed the field from the section, giving you one less item you have to select.
    • The questions answered in the “Underwriting” section will determine if “Graded” will be offered. If it looks like the client is tracking “Graded,” we will let you know in the “Premium Summary” section (shown below). You will be able to adjust the face amount accordingly.

    • While we highly recommend you continue to field underwrite each individual client prior to beginning the application, our Automated Underwriting decision tool will be able to guide you as you complete the application.
  3. Where is the decision displayed?
    • Once you click the “Submit to United of Omaha” button, the policy number and the decision (highlighted in Green) will appear. See the image below for a visual reference.
