Good News! Recently, the Minnesota Department of Human Services updated their Medicaid Eligibility Policy Manual. These updates bring Minnesota in line with the industry standard of allowing policy proceeds to be irrevocably assigned to a funeral provider.
Accordingly, it is no longer required that the beneficiary of Minnesota policies reads “Any funeral home as its interests may appear” in order for the policy to be Medicaid exempt. This means that you do not need to write this on applications for the state of Minnesota for preneed or final expense policies. This language will no longer be included in the policy endorsement page.
